An underwater dredging robot is an automated machine designed to remove sediment, debris, and other accumulated materials from underwater environments such as rivers, lakes, harbors, and reservoirs. These robots are typically equipped with features like remote control or autonomous navigation, powerful pumps or mechanical arms for material removal, and often integrated sensors for real-time monitoring, offering an efficient, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional dredging methods. Working Principle of Dredging Robot:
An underwater crawler cleaning robot is like an underwater vacuum cleaner or excavator. It moves underwater under its own power and uses sensors to “see” its surroundings. It then pumps up the silt from the bottom of the water or grabs debris from the bottom of the water with a robotic arm, and finally transports these items to shore. The entire process is usually remotely controlled by a person on shore, and some smarter robots can work on their own.
Application Areas of Underwater Dredging Robots:
- Dredging of rivers and lakes: used to remove silt, sand, water plants, etc. from riverbeds and lake bottoms, improve water quality, restore the self-purification ability of water bodies, and enhance shipping capacity.
- Port and dock maintenance: clean up silt in waterways, berths, and harbors, ensure safe navigation and docking of ships, and maintain normal operation of ports.
- Reservoir and dam maintenance: remove silt and sediment at the bottom of reservoirs, restore the effective storage capacity of reservoirs, and ensure the safe operation and power generation efficiency of dams.
- Sewage treatment plants are used to clean up sludge and sediment in sedimentation tanks and digestion tanks of sewage treatment plants, improve treatment efficiency, and reduce the risk of manual cleaning.
- Aquaculture: remove leftover bait, excrement, etc. at the bottom of aquaculture ponds, improve the aquaculture environment, reduce the occurrence of diseases, and increase the output of aquatic products.
- Environmental remediation: used to clean up harmful substances and pollutants at the bottom of polluted waters, such as heavy metals, toxic chemicals, etc., and repair and manage the water environment.
- Underwater infrastructure construction and maintenance: Clearing obstructions and silt during the construction of underwater infrastructure such as bridges, tunnels, and pipelines, and performing cleaning and inspection during post-maintenance.

Underwater Dredging Robot VS Traditional Dredging Methods
Compared with manual diver dredging, large dredger, and onshore excavator dredging, the YG underwater dredging robot has obvious comprehensive advantages in safety, cost, efficiency, and environmental protection:
| Comparison Item | Underwater Dredging Robot | Manual Diver Dredging | Large Dredger | Onshore Excavator |
| Operation Safety | Extremely high, no underwater personnel | High risk, prone to accidents | Medium risk, professional crew required | Low risk but limited operation range |
| Space Adaptability | Strong, suitable for narrow & shallow water | General, limited by water depth | Poor, only for wide open water | Poor, only for shore edge operation |
| Construction Cost | Low, one-time purchase, low maintenance | High, high labor cost | Very high, high rental & fuel cost | Medium, low efficiency increases time cost |
| Environmental Impact | Low disturbance, no secondary pollution | Easy to cause sediment re-suspension | Serious water turbidity, large ecological damage | Partial water body damage |
| Water Draining Requirement | No water draining needed | Partial draining required | No draining but large water area required | Must drain shallow water area |
| Working Efficiency | Stable & continuous, 100-200m³/h | Slow, dependent on physical strength | High efficiency but inflexible | Low efficiency, intermittent operation |
How to Choose the Right Underwater Dredging Robot
-
Confirm Working Water Depth: YG standard models support 0- 40 m underwater operation. For ultra-deep water projects, we can customize a deep-water waterproof and pressure-resistant configuration.
-
Confirm Sediment Type & Particle Size: For fine silt and sediment, choose YG-500/600; for sediment with small stones and coarse sand, choose YG-700/800/900; for large particle impurities, choose YG-1200 with a 60 mm maximum passing particle size.
-
Match Hourly Dredging Output: Small and medium-sized projects with low output demand choose 100m³/h models (YG-500/600); large-scale continuous dredging projects choose 200m³/h high-flow models.
-
Measure On-site Working Space: For narrow ponds, small sedimentation tanks, and shallow water areas, choose compact small models; for wide waterways and large reservoirs, choose the large-width YG-1200 model.
-
Check On-site Power Supply Condition: Standard 380V industrial power supply; supports customized voltage standards for different countries and regions.
-
Special Functional Requirements: For chemical plants and explosion-proof scenarios, select optional explosion-proof motor configuration; for turbid water construction, upgrade high-definition underwater camera system.
